Peace Corps Timeline

February 28, 2013: Submitted PC applications. Applied to serve as a married couple.

March 1, 2013: Notified we met minimum requirements and asked to submit reference information for recommendations.

March 14, 2013: Jenn had to resubmit her resume due to some Mac compatibility issues. Tommy had to submit one more personal reference for a recommendation and fill out an education addendum.

March 22, 2013: Scheduled our interview with our ATL recruiter for April.

April 18, 2013: Interviewed with Jai from 1-3pm and was told she would be nominating us that very day! We should receive an official nomination email in the morning and Jenn would be contacted by a PC Medical Officer within 48 hours for some paperwork about her medical history.

April 19, 2013: Jenn received an email from the PCMO including several forms and instructions for pre-medical clearance. Official nomination never came. We received an email later that day stating one of us would not actually qualify for the program our advisor had been working on for us. We lost our nomination. Not sure how our advisor missed the requirement, but we were told she was working with Placement on something else for us that Jenn technically didn’t qualify for and would require some language learning prior to departure.

April 22, 2013: Placement didn’t accept the conditional nomination. We have to wait until the new quarter opens up in May to see what is available, which means looking for a program with a departure date around April-June 2014.

May 21, 2013: Unfortunately there were no programs available that we both qualified for. It was suggested that one or both of us gain at least 30 hours of health education experience, or work 480 hours on a farm or garden, and that Tommy should definitely learn Spanish so he could pass their Spanish test and open us up for eligibility for more programs. We would have to wait until August when more programs become available to see if there are any that we qualify for.

June 11, 2013: Husband and I discover we are pregnant!

August 2013: The new quarter has opened up but we haven’t heard from Jai, which is okay because now we are definitely pregnant and need to withdraw our application.

September 6, 2013: Jai notifies us that we’ve been nominated to a program! Dammit.

September 23, 2013: Husband and I withdraw our applications to the Peace Corps due to our very unexpected little blessing.
